Johnnie Walker whisky – where is it from?

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

It’s from the town of Kilmarnock in Scotland of course…..eh, not much longer!

The company, Diageo, which owns the Johnnie Walker brand has INCREDIBLY decided to close its operations in Kilmarnock (and neighbouring village of Hurlford) with the loss of 700 local jobs. This is a devastating blow to the area in Ayrshire, Scotland, and could ruin the town.  This website finds the decision deplorable and urges Diageo to change its corporate mind.

Apparently, the same company once proposed to close the famous St. James Gate brewery in Dublin, home of Guinness! What are they thinking? An amazing example of greed gone ga-ga?

These brands rely on their heritage and people the world over recognise this as a sign of quality.

Diageo brands are listed here.
