Swedish parents Elisabeth Hallin and Lasse Diding had planned never to name their baby boy, born in 1991, as a protest against the naming law of Sweden (Namnlag (1982:670)). The law requires a name by the child’s fifth birthday and a fine was imposed, prompting the couple to submit the 43 character name which was to be pronounced ‘albin’.

After much legal tennis, the boy’s name was given as “Icke namngivet gossebarn”, meaning “unnamed little boy”.
