Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all our readers. You might not be aware that the patron saint of Ireland was in fact probably a Scotsman! (not that the patron saint of Scotland, St Andrew was Scottish of course, but that’s another story).
St Patrick (ministering in what is now Northern Ireland sometime around the 5th century AD) was captured by the Romans when he was 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave.
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17th, the date of Patrick’s death.

The clover was used by Patrick  to illustrate the Holy Trinity. He is famous as having allegedly banished snakes from the island of Ireland after they assailed him during a 40 day fast at the top of a hill.
